Ratings Analyst U.S. Public Finance Local Government Group South Region: S&P Global Ratings

The Team:

The Local Government South Region provides ratings for counties municipalities and school districts throughout the southern U.S. You will join a professional team of analysts that maintains a strong culture of analytical excellence and customer service in a supportive and collegial environment so effective teamwork and a thoughtful approach to problem-solving is highly valued.

Responsibilities and Impact:

This position is key to maintaining our market relevance and meeting our transaction requirements. As a Grade 9 professional you will contribute to team initiatives while taking accountability for individual targets. Specifically in this role you will:

  • Conducting in-depth research and preparing comprehensive documents and presentations for rating committees demonstrating strong attention to detail and ability to identify potential issues

  • Attend rating committee meetings alongside senior analysts as assigned actively participating and contributing towards team goals

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of ratings criteria and financial statement analysis

  • Assist in the collection and analysis of data on special projects resolving issues that are often varied and non-routine

  • Collaborating with analysts to publish periodic thought leadership articles

  • All employees are required to work from the office a minimum of 2 days per week

  • We require all candidates who reach the final stage of our interview process to attend at least one in-person interview which is ordinarily at your nearest S&P Global Ratings office. This must be completed before we can proceed to an offer

What Were Looking For:

BasicRequiredQualifications:

  • Bachelors degree (BS/BA) in finance accounting economics government/public policy or similar field required

  • 1 years of relevant work experience in finance analysis or related field

  • Demonstrated interest in local government operations and municipal finance

  • Strong work ethic and ability to work well both independently and as part of a team

  • Proficiency in financial modeling and data analysis including cash flow and credit models

  • Strong communication skills and ability to engage confidently with clients

  • Outstanding proficiency with MS Word Excel and PowerPoint; knowledge of programming languages and data analytics as well as experience with AI and automation tools that enhance efficiency isa plus

  • Willingness to learn through both formal training and hands-on experience adaptability to handle changing priorities and complex situations and creativity to bring innovative ideas to improve processes and outcomes

  • Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment while managing m ultiple priorities with organization and attention to detail

  • Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with municipal bond analysis or public sector financial evaluation

  • Knowledge of government accounting principles and financial reporting standards

  • Familiarity with credit rating methodologies and analytical frameworks

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks based on importance and urgency while managing competing deadlines
