Job Summary:

In this role, you will be a key stakeholder in SPI/Development forums, working closely with peers to identify product certification and compliance gaps. You will bring awareness and influence cross-functional engineering teams to implement solutions that fulfill regulatory requirements. You will assist SPI teams with guidance for annual/CPS submissions for Emissions Certification/Pre-certification, DF, IRAF, GHG, and Design Review coverage. Additionally, you will provide guidance to SPI teams on AECD identification and ATAC team reviews, ensuring accurate documentation. You will execute annual certification submissions for assigned products, collaborating with agencies and product development teams to respond to agency questions and requests for related information on time and with the required vetting and quality. You will lead compliance projects and documentation related to assigned products, ensuring delivery timelines are met (e.g., IUT, Agency Emissions Audits, PDR, RCs/FFs, Q&A, Audit Management Council, CARE Process). You will support the implementation of the PCRA compliance corridor for applicable tasks related to VPI products and assist with requests from the VPI Compliance Leader. While prior Spark Ignited automotive experience is preferred, it is not required.
  • Prior demonstrated knowledge on engine and aftertreatment system knowledge (either through past work/hobby/graduate school)
  • Knowledge on Engine Certification regulations helpful (e.g., EPA's 40CFR1036, 40CFR1065, 40CFR1068) but not required
  • While an engineering degree is not required, the role is technical in nature that requires collaboration with engineering team and assess how the changes made by engineering would impact technical compliance, so technical problem solving skills, basic physics, chemistry knowledge are key (e.g., changes to exhaust manifold hardware could potentially impact exhaust pressure signature, temperature seen by a turbo charger etc.)

  • Apply technical expertise on complex components or projects for regulatory compliance efforts.
  • Work under minimal supervision to ensure adherence to environmental regulations.
  • Participate as a key contributor and be accountable for cross-functional project success with various stakeholders.
  • Analyze and communicate information to internal stakeholders regarding environmental compliance matters.
  • Identify, establish, and facilitate meetings and training sessions on compliance.
  • Lead small projects or portions of large projects.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts from related groups to improve environmental performance and compliance processes.
  • Identify opportunities to establish common processes and tools.
  • Support the definition and execution of corrective actions.
  • Communicate with and influence key external stakeholders and business leaders.
  • Escalate compliance issues as appropriate.
  • Assist with the transfer of knowledge; coach and mentor less experienced compliance personnel.
  • Demonstrate depth of knowledge in engineering or environmental disciplines and leverage expertise on other projects.
  • Propose innovative initiatives and projects.
  • Escalate and drive resolution to compliance questions and issues; provide technical direction for projects or project teams.
  • Troubleshoot complex problems and recommend appropriate actions.

    Education, Licenses, Certifications:
    College, university, or equivalent degree in Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Business, or related technical or scientific field required.

    Experience:
    Intermediate level of relevant work experience required. Experience across organizations and global regions preferred. Knowledge of the function being worked in preferred.
