Director of Finance – Nonprofit Sector | Brooklyn, NY (Hybrid) Location: Industry City, Brooklyn (Hybrid: 3 days onsite / 2 remote) Client & Role : A well-established ~$30M non-profit organization entering an exciting phase of transformation and growth is seeking a Director of Finance to join its executive leadership team. This organization serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and is undergoing a rebranding and expansion under a new CEO. As Director of Finance, you’ll be a critical strategic partner, reporting to the COO and working closely with the CEO and Board. You’ll lead a finance team of nine, while owning all financial strategy, planning, compliance, and reporting functions. What You’ll Do Lead financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis for a $30M+ nonprofit. Supervise and mentor a finance team of 9, including a Comptroller. Oversee financial reporting, cash flow management, and audit readiness. Ensure compliance with GAAP, federal/state regulations, and nonprofit-specific standards. Serve as a key advisor to executive leadership on financial planning and risk management. Support the organization’s expansion through systems/process improvements, acquisitions, and strategic investment planning. What We’re Looking For 5+ years in senior-level financial roles, with at least 2 years in leadership (Director/VP/Controller). Experience in the nonprofit, healthcare, or human services sector strongly preferred. Strong background in budgeting, reporting, compliance, and strategic planning. Prior experience managing finance teams and partnering with senior leadership. Familiarity with 403(b) plans, grant reporting, and nonprofit audit prep a plus. CPA, CMA, or CFA credentials are valued but not required. The ideal candidate brings a proactive mindset to organizational change.
