Job Overview 

Somerled is seeking an experienced and motivated Design Manager to lead our talented team of interior designers. This remote role requires a highly organized and creative individual who excels in project management, client relations, and innovative design strategies.

As a Design Manager, you will oversee approximately 5 projects per two-week design period, ensuring high-quality execution of interior design for short-term rental properties. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of the STR and/or hospitality industry (e.g., boutique hotels, restaurants) and a passion for experiential design.

Key Responsibilities:

Design Team Management & Leadership:

• Oversee 5 projects per two-week design cycle.
• Conduct client discovery and market research to guide design decisions.
• Manage and assign project responsibilities using Monday.com.
• Review and provide feedback on design drafts to ensure quality.
• Act as a liaison between the design team, project management, and customer success teams.
• Conduct monthly 1:1 meetings with each designer to provide feedback, discuss growth opportunities, and review designer scorecards to track progress and improvement.
• Delegate sourcing of out-of-stock or backordered items to interns and coordinators.
• Lead bi-weekly training meetings with Design Managers and Lead Designers.
• Guide the team in creating experiential and market-differentiated designs.
• Collaborate with Somerled leadership and attend in-person management trainings and meetings, traveling up to once per quarter as needed.

Client Relations:

• Provide exceptional customer service in all client interactions.
• Participate in Design Strategy Calls with Client Success Managers & Project Managers.
• Produce and deliver excellent design deliverables to our clients
• Conduct design market research to provide expert insights and recommendations.
• Manage client communication during design hand-offs.
• Provide post-handoff design support as needed.

Design Strategies:

• Conduct market research for every new project to inform design decisions.
• Identify competitors and develop strategies for market differentiation.
• Determine optimal design styles and regional influences.
• Create compelling mood boards and color palettes tailored to each property.
• Develop amenity and design strategies that enhance property appeal in competitive STR markets.

Qualifications:

• 1-2 years of experience leading an interior design team.
• 3-5 years of experience in interior design, ideally in hospitality or STR design.
• Degree in Interior Design or equivalent experience.
• Strong knowledge of design processes, project management, and leadership.
• Proficiency with Monday.com and design software (including Canva).
• Excellent client communication and customer service skills.
• Strong ability to conduct market research and create strategic designs.
• Detail-oriented, creative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
• Must be based in one of the following states:
• Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, or Utah
